Alumni and Friends Making an Impact

In the Spotlight: 10 Under 10
Ten years. That’s all it took for these young alumni to change lives and leave a lasting mark on the world. They have taken the lessons of “Learn. Lead. Serve.” from UD and carried them forward into their careers to make an impact in society.
Each member of the fourth cohort of 10 Under 10 honorees, who have graduated from UD within the last 10 years, exemplifies Flyer excellence in work, volunteerism, mentorship or service.
Sarah Brightfield ’22 has never been afraid to take the road less traveled — literally. Attending UD during the pandemic, her post-graduate experience began with a big-yellow-van-life adventure to all 50 states. Now, as project engineer on a $636 million water project, she’s applying the same curiosity and perseverance to build sustainable infrastructure to benefit communities. Her time in UD’s Ethos program showed her that engineering is about more than making calculations — it’s about making a difference.
Erin Mohney ’16 turned her passion into action, tackling food insecurity head-on. As the director of operations for the Food Bank of the Rockies, she helps provide meals to families who need them most. Her career has been built on service, but it all started with the values she learned at UD. Years after graduation, she even returned to campus to speak to students about government food assistance — coming full circle to inspire the next generation of Flyers.
And Tarik Alkharusi ’16 shares his passion for problem-solving beyond borders. As a researcher pursuing his doctorate at Imperial College London, he’s working on advanced solutions in solar energy research. When he arrived at UD from Oman, he embraced the challenge of mastering English and mechanical engineering and flourished in the UD community, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Alkharusi recently played a major role in helping to fund the solar energy project testing station on campus, ensuring that future Flyers, including several students he inspired from Oman, have the same hands-on learning opportunities that shaped his own journey.
These are just a few of the 10 Under 10 honorees, each one carrying the Flyer spirit into the world in their own way. Here are the fellow members of UD’s 2025 10 Under 10:
- Bryan Borodkin ’20, Bay City, Mich. Borodkin is a senior law clerk for a federal judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. As a law student, he published a legal reform note on excessive force that was cited by the National Urban League on an issue before the U.S. Supreme Court. He also serves as a mentor through the Alumni Mentoring Program.
- Allison Dudek ’21, Cincinnati. Dudek owns her own jewelry business, Champagne Day Boutique. She plans to go to law school next year and is actively engaged in a myriad of service roles (Big Sisters, Emerging Leaders, Women on the Rise, Girls on the Run and more.)
- Anamaria Karrels ’16, abroad. Anamaria is a Foreign Service Officer for the United States Government. She works as a U.S. diplomat and has helped with efforts to teach underprivileged youth English and STEM skills.
- Asia Roebuck Lewis ’16, Dayton, Ohio. Lewis is a Quality Engineer at Evenflo. She also flips houses with her husband to provide higher-quality, low-income housing for those in need in the Dayton community.
- Megan Dunn Peters ’14, Dayton, Ohio. Peters is a former school teacher who now works as the marketing and community partnerships manager at the Dayton Arcade. She also coaches the UD Irish dance team.
- Iván Rodríguez ’15, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Rodriguez is the vice president of engineering at One Energy Renewables, a company his job application was once rejected from. He returned to Puerto Rico in 2017 to work for FEMA in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
- Maggie Sheehan ’16, Columbus. Sheehan works in agriculture stakeholder relations at the Ohio Department of Agriculture. She is the career development chair for the Columbus Alumni Community and also volunteers with the Statehouse Civil Scholar Program.
In just 10 years, these University of Dayton graduates have built careers rooted in service, solutions and leadership. That’s success on every level. Go Flyers!
